The traditional ‘’Soufas’’ beds of Karpathos
One of the special adornments of each Elaia villa is the wood-carved “Soufas”, the traditional family bed characteristic of the old houses of Karpathos. Decorated with handcrafted weavings, hand painted plates and old family portraits, it is considered the unique jewel of Elaia Villas.

What is the functional ‘’Soufas’’ ?
The functional ‘’Soufas’’ was a characteristic feature of every old house in Karpathos. It was a wooden, elevated structure. The the upper level serving as the sleeping area of the family, while the lower level was used for food storage. The ‘’Soufas’’ was a functional, space-saving structure, but also an object of family pride, as it was always beautifully hand carved and ornate.
